Beauty | Pre Menstrual Syndrome
PMS can sometimes cause problems that affect our appearance, for example, skin can become spotty and water retention can cause puffiness and bloating. Try the following tips to help keep you looking and feeling your best:
- If your skin breaks out regularly and this fits in with the timings of your cycle try using a product that contains salicylic acid in the week before your period starts. This will dry out the oiliness in the skin and help prevent spots
- Don’t forget that the skin is a living organ and if it is deprived of oxygen can look sluggish. Exercise helps keep skin looking healthy as it increases oxygen flow to all the body’s cells. But don’t forget to wash after exercise otherwise sweat can block pores and make any skin problems worse
- Some women swear by vitamin E products, both supplements and facewashes/creams. Vitamin E is an antioxidant that helps protect cells against oxidative stress
- Eating the right foods may help prevent bloating. Cut down on salt and fizzy drinks, and eat more complex carbohydrates and lean protein
- Include two portions of oily fish per week, or take an omega-3 supplement as omega-3 fatty acids act as an anti-inflammatory
- Stress can be bad news for skin so try and schedule some time to relax and do something you enjoy
